Best AI Customer Support Agents in 2026: Fin, Sierra, Decagon, Zendesk and More

How to choose an AI customer support agent: help-desk built-ins vs standalone platforms vs open source, with live usage data, prices and real deployments with reported results.

AI support agents answer customers on chat, email and increasingly the phone, and, more importantly, take actions: issue a refund, change a booking, update an address. AgentGid tracks 33 of them. They split into four groups, and choosing the right group matters more than choosing a product within it.

1. The AI agent inside your help desk

If you already run a help desk, its own agent is usually the shortest path: it reads your existing help center, sees ticket history and hands off to your team inside the same inbox.

Help desk Its AI agent How it is priced
Zendesk Zendesk AI agents AI agents are included in every Support and Suite plan: Support Team $19, Suite Team $55 and Suite Professional $115 per agent per month billed...
Freshworks Freddy AI Agent Freddy AI Agent is included in Freshdesk Growth ($19), Pro ($55) and Enterprise ($89) per agent per month billed annually, with the first 500...
HubSpot HubSpot Customer Agent $0.50 per resolved conversation for messaging and $0.50 per minute for voice, paid in HubSpot Credits; Professional or Enterprise editions of...
Gorgias Gorgias AI Agent Starter is $40 per month on monthly billing ($10 helpdesk plus $30 AI Agent, 50 tickets and 30 automated interactions); Basic is $90 ($77 billed...
Help Scout Compass AI Answers/Compass is an add-on at $0.75 per resolution, with an optional monthly spending cap and 3 months of free unlimited resolutions for new...
Chatwoot Chatwoot Captain Hosted plans per agent per month: Hacker $0 (up to 2 agents, 500 conversations, no Captain AI), Startups $19, Business $39 and Enterprise $99,...

Gorgias is built for ecommerce and can act on Shopify orders; HubSpot's agent acts in the HubSpot CRM. The trade-off with all of them is lock-in: the agent works best, or only, on its own help desk.

2. Standalone agents that sit on any help desk

Fin runs natively in Intercom but also on top of Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshdesk and other help desks, and is priced per outcome ($0.99/outcome). Lyro from Tidio and Kustomer AI can also be placed over other help desks. This group suits teams that want a strong agent without migrating their ticketing.

3. Enterprise agent platforms

Sierra, Decagon, Ada, Maven AGI, Zowie and Salesforce Agentforce are built for large brands: many channels including voice, deep integration with order and account systems, testing and QA tooling, and outcome-based contracts. Most publish no prices. Decagon, for example, lets support staff write the agent's procedures in plain language; Zowie separates the conversation from a deterministic engine that runs refunds and identity checks by policy.

If voice is the main channel, also look at the dedicated voice platforms: PolyAI and Parloa.

4. Builders and open source

Rasa and Botpress let you build and host the agent yourself, and Chatwoot is an open-source help desk with its own AI agent. They cost far less in licences and far more in your team's time. Simpler website bots trained on your docs, such as Chatbase or DocsBot, answer questions well but rarely take actions in your systems.

What companies report

Vendors publish customer stories with figures such as deflection rates and handled volumes. AgentGid collects them as use cases for support teams, each with the setup, the reported results and a note on what to watch. All figures there are as reported by the vendor or customer, not measured by us.

How to choose

  1. Start from your help desk. If you are happy with it, try its built-in agent first; you can run a standalone agent on top later.
  2. Count actions, not answers. List the five most common requests and check whether the agent can complete them (refund, reschedule, cancel) through an integration, not just explain how.
  3. Read the pricing definition. "Per resolution" means different things to different vendors. The support agent pricing guide compares the models.
  4. Insist on a test set. Run the agent on a few hundred past conversations before going live and review the answers it would have given.
  5. Plan the handoff. The customer experience is decided by what happens when the agent cannot help: how fast a person picks up and whether they see the conversation so far.

Open-source products rank high here because the Gid Score counts downloads and GitHub activity, which closed enterprise platforms do not have. Read it as a measure of public footprint, not of how well an agent resolves tickets. Full list: customer support category.
