GitHub Copilot's coding agent
GitHub Copilot is no longer only autocomplete: it has an agent mode in the editor, a command-line agent and a cloud coding agent that works on an assigned task in the background and opens a pull request. Those pull requests are public on GitHub, so their volume and merge rate can be counted; see GitHub activity for how Copilot compares with other agents.
Microsoft's agents
For everyday work Microsoft offers Copilot (consumer and Microsoft 365) and Copilot Studio for building business agents without code. For developers, Microsoft Agent Framework is presented as the successor to Semantic Kernel and AutoGen.

Questions about Microsoft and GitHub AI agents
What is the GitHub Copilot coding agent?
It is the part of GitHub Copilot that works on its own: you assign it a task, it works in the background and opens a pull request for you to review. It is included in Copilot plans, which draw on monthly AI credits.
Which Microsoft framework should I use to build agents?
Microsoft presents Microsoft Agent Framework as the successor to Semantic Kernel and AutoGen; AutoGen is in maintenance mode. New projects generally start with Agent Framework.
