Coding agent activity on GitHub

Some coding agents leave a recognisable signature on the pull requests they produce: a bot account that opens them, or a default branch prefix. That makes their public output countable. This page tracks how many such pull requests appear per week in public repositories and what share gets merged.

Counts come from GitHub's public search and cover public repositories only. The two kinds of signature are not equivalent: a bot account (author:) counts pull requests the agent opened itself, while a branch prefix (head:) counts pull requests from branches the tool named, including ones a developer renamed or opened by hand. Merge rate is not a quality score on its own: agents that open pull requests only when a developer asks for one will merge more often than agents that open them unprompted.

How to read this

Volume shows how much work is being delegated to an agent in the open. It says nothing about private repositories, where most commercial use happens, and it only counts agents that leave a signature: tools that commit under the developer's own name are invisible here.

Merge rate is the share of opened pull requests that a human (or an auto-merge rule) accepted. The latest week is excluded from the rate because recent pull requests have not had time to be reviewed.
