Reading installs and ratings
Installs are cumulative, so extensions that have been on the Marketplace for years lead on the total; use release activity to see which ones are still moving. Ratings come from a small share of users, usually a few hundred, and skew toward people with a strong opinion either way, so read them as a rough signal.
Several of these extensions are front ends for an agent that also runs in the terminal. In that case the extension's installs understate total usage, and the agent's own page shows its package downloads as well.
