Case study Deda.Tech

How Deda.Tech automates ITSM provisioning and server lifecycles with n8n

Italian IT service provider Deda.Tech uses n8n as middleware between its internal ITSM system and customers' tech stacks. It automates VM provisioning and server lifecycle tasks, and new workflows now reach production far faster than before.

The problem

Deda.Tech had several services that did not talk to each other and needed workflow logic across internal and incoming data streams. Customers' stacks ranged from open source projects to enterprise components. The team wanted a visual, event-driven tool that could natively connect to RabbitMQ and came with vendor support for production use.

How they did it

  1. Experiment with the community edition by building a workflow that lets the ITSM system run provisioning tasks on VMware instances.
  2. Run two n8n instances on two single servers: one for public services that connect to external systems, one for internal requests in the data centers.
  3. Have the ITSM system publish JSON payloads to a RabbitMQ queue.
  4. Let n8n consume the queued requests and run the provisioning automations.
  5. Extend the workflow to cover server lifecycles, including power on/off, scheduled reboots, snapshots and backups, without giving external access to hypervisors.

Results

  • Delivery time improved from 2 days to 30 minutes, as reported by n8n (vendor case study).
  • A new workflow sending configuration items from the ITSM system to Salesforce was built in half an hour; the team estimated about two days with their previous tools.
  • Deployment took a few hours, as reported by n8n.
  • The visual interface helps non-engineers understand how workflows run and contribute to improvements.

As reported by the source (n8n customer case study); AgentGid did not measure these figures.

Takeaway. A queue-driven n8n setup can act as middleware that decouples an ITSM system from customer stacks and lets teams ship integrations quickly.
AgentGid's take

This suits an IT or ops team that already runs an ITSM system and RabbitMQ and is comfortable managing its own servers, since the setup uses two self-hosted n8n instances. Note that Deda.Tech used n8n Enterprise for vendor support, and the speed figures come from n8n's own case study. You can start with the free community edition (n8n is rated Free, though it isn't open source), or try Flowise (Free, open source) if you want a fully open-source option.
