How Bordr automated Portuguese tax ID order handling with n8n
Bordr, an online service that helps foreigners relocate to Portugal, used n8n to connect its order, payment, email and form tools into automated workflows. This let the small team handle growing volumes of tax ID (NIF) orders while keeping customers informed.
The problem
Bordr arranges Portuguese tax IDs for newcomers through a partner law firm, and each order touched several separate tools, including Postmark, Paperform, Stripe and Airtable. As orders grew, handling them manually became hard to sustain. The founders needed a tool that could link all these services and support more complex, multi-step logic than simple two-step automations.
How they did it
- Compared Zapier and n8n and chose n8n for workflows that go well beyond two steps.
- Connected the existing apps (Postmark, Paperform, Stripe, Airtable) through n8n.
- Built workflows with branching and conditional logic that add orders to Airtable and send transactional emails.
- Automated tasks for the law firm partner, Power of Attorney PDF generation and request logging.
- Built a workflow that sends the finished NIF PDF to the customer.
- Added a self-service option where customers upload PDFs.
Results
- The Power of Attorney PDF workflow has 18 nodes and the workflow that sends the NIF to the customer has nine nodes, as reported by n8n.
- As reported by n8n, Bordr saw a significant productivity increase and could process NIF orders at a steady pace.
- Automated Postmark emails keep customers updated at every step, which would not have been feasible by hand.
As reported by the source (n8n customer case study); AgentGid did not measure these figures.
This suits a small ops team already running tools like Stripe, Airtable and Postmark that needs branching, multi-step workflows, and someone comfortable building 9 to 18 node flows. Watch the productivity gains: they are reported by n8n, not independently measured. Self-hosting n8n's community edition is free but source-available, not open source. If that matters, Dify (Free, open source) is the nearest-ranked alternative.
