Produce AI short dramas from a novel with shuohao-skills in Claude Code
An individual developer published an open-source set of agent skills that take a novel through to shoot-ready AI short-drama material: outline, character bible, art bible, screenplay and storyboard. The skills run in Claude Code and Codex, or any agent that can read SKILL.md and run Node scripts.
The problem
Producing an AI short drama from a novel involves many separate stages, from adapting the story to designing characters, scenes and props, writing the script and breaking it into shots. Keeping these stages consistent with one another is hard when each is done by hand or with unrelated prompts.
How they did it
- Clone the repository and run ./scripts/install.sh, which detects Claude Code and Codex and symlinks each skill so git pull updates them.
- For other agents, copy or symlink a skill directory into that agent's skills directory, or load its SKILL.md directly.
- Make sure Node 18 or newer is available; the scripts use only the standard library.
- Run the pipeline skills in order: novel-outline, novel-characters, novel-art, novel-script and novel-storyboard.
- For character reference images, configure one image backend on first use: ComfyUI with Qwen Image, codex image generation, the GPT Image 2 API, or a custom command.
- Optionally merge the five stage reports into one page with node scripts/report.mjs --from --out report.html.
From the official docs
git clone https://github.com/eternityspring/shuohao-skills.git
cd shuohao-skills
./scripts/install.sh
Results
- As reported by the repository author, each pipeline skill has script-checked quality gates: 14 for the outline, 10 for the art bible, 10 for the screenplay and 18 for the storyboard.
- As reported by the repository author, the report assembler has a self-test with 92 assertions that runs without a browser.
- The repository shows 4.5k stars and 614 forks on GitHub.
- Output is Chinese-first: the character skill produces Chinese profiles even for English source novels.
As reported by the source (GitHub repository README (eternityspring/shuohao-skills)); AgentGid did not measure these figures.
This suits a solo creator or small team comfortable with the command line, Node 18+ and setting up an image backend such as ComfyUI. Expect Chinese-first output, and note that the quality-gate counts and the self-test figure are the author's own claims. Codex has a free tier, so you can try the skills without a paid Claude Code plan; OpenCode (Free + $10/mo) is another open-source option.
