Delegate a Linear issue to Codex and turn the result into a PR
With Codex installed in Linear, you can assign an issue to Codex or mention @Codex in a comment. It runs a cloud task on the linked repository and reports back in the issue.
The problem
Product and engineering teams track work in Linear, but starting a coding agent usually means leaving the tracker. This setup lets anyone send a ticket to the agent and follow its progress where the work is already tracked.
Steps
- Turn on Codex cloud tasks: connect GitHub and create an environment with at least one repository mapped to it. This needs a paid plan.
- Install Codex for Linear from the Codex settings.
- Link your Linear account by mentioning @Codex in an issue comment.
- Assign an issue to Codex, or mention it and name the repository you want it to work in.
- Optionally, add Linear triage rules that assign matching issues to Codex automatically.
From the official docs
@Codex fix this in openai/codex
Results
- Codex picks an environment and repository and starts a cloud task.
- It posts progress in the issue's activity feed, then a summary with a link to the task.
- You can open a pull request from the result.
As reported by the source (OpenAI Codex docs); AgentGid did not measure these figures.
This suits small product and engineering teams already on Linear and GitHub, with someone who can set up a Codex cloud environment. The catch is that cloud tasks need a paid ChatGPT plan, and every PR still needs human review, which matters most if you turn on auto-assigning triage rules. If you'd rather avoid that cost, Pi (Free, OSS) is a terminal alternative, though it has no Linear integration in this data.
