Run a YouTube channel with eleven Claude skills for scripts, edits and retention

An open-source MIT pack of eleven Claude skills helps a YouTube creator draft scripts, package titles and thumbnails, cut edits, read retention data and plan a week of content. It never publishes; the creator reviews each output and uploads manually.

The problem

Running a YouTube channel involves many separate chores: scripting hooks, pairing titles with thumbnails, finding dead air in edits, reading retention exports, and spotting Shorts inside long videos. Doing them by hand or with generic prompts is slow and inconsistent. The author built a skill pack that adds small Python tools and a shared voice file to cover these tasks.

Steps

  1. Clone the repository, or paste its URL into Claude and ask it to install the skill and confirm /yt-script works.
  2. In Claude Code, copy the skills/yt-* folders into ~/.claude/skills/, or install through the plugin marketplace as the youtube-agent plugin.
  3. Alternatively copy the folders into a project's .claude/skills/ for project-local use.
  4. Copy templates/voice.md to ~/.claude/youtube/voice.md and fill it in, or have Claude write it from three of your own videos.
  5. Run commands such as /yt-script, /yt-package, /yt-edit or /yt-retention, and review each output before uploading anything yourself.

From the official docs

git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/youtube-agent-skill.git
cp -r youtube-agent-skill/skills/yt-* ~/.claude/skills/

Results

  • The pack bundles eleven skills and six dependency-free Python tools, including a hook scorer, title and thumbnail linter, dead-air detector, chapter validator, retention reader and outlier finder.
  • The README says the hook scorer was calibrated on 74 real short-form hooks. It separates deliberately bad hooks from real ones well but barely distinguishes a creator's own hits from misses, so it is a heuristic rather than a predictor.
  • The repository shows 2.1k stars and 666 forks.
  • Nothing is published automatically; every skill ends with copyable output and a ship-or-change question.

As reported by the source (GitHub repository README (Jakeschincariol/youtube-agent-skill)); AgentGid did not measure these figures.

Takeaway. Pair prompt-based skills with small deterministic scripts and a personal voice file, and keep a human approval step before anything is published.
AgentGid's take

This suits a solo creator or small channel team that's comfortable copying folders and editing a voice file, and who has a paid Claude plan, since Claude Code isn't on the Free tier ($20/mo on Pro). Watch the hook scorer: its README says it barely separates a creator's own hits from misses, so treat it as a heuristic. Skills are Claude-specific, so alternatives like OpenCode (Free + $10/mo) would need porting.
