Best AI Browser Agents in 2026: Browser Use, Stagehand, Claude in Chrome and AI Browsers

AI agents that use a web browser, compared: developer libraries for browser automation, agents that work in your own browser, and AI browsers. Live usage, prices and how to choose.

A browser agent reads web pages and acts on them like a person would: clicking, typing, filling forms and moving between sites. That makes it the universal integration for websites without an API, and also the riskiest kind of agent to give your accounts to. The products fall into three groups that solve different problems.

1. Libraries for developers who automate the web

These let you build browser automation where some steps are written in natural language ("click the cheapest flight") instead of brittle selectors, and run it on your own machine or in a cloud of browsers.

Agent Made by Open source Entry price
Browser Use Browser Use Yes Free
Stagehand Browserbase Yes Free + $20/mo
Skyvern Skyvern AI Yes Free + $29/mo
Amazon Nova Act Amazon (AWS) Yes Usage-based
  • Browser Use is the most-starred open-source library: Python, works with many models, with an optional pay-as-you-go cloud.
  • Stagehand from Browserbase mixes natural-language actions with ordinary code in TypeScript, Python and Go, which keeps the predictable parts deterministic.
  • Skyvern adds computer vision and is aimed at business workflows such as forms and portals; self-hosted under AGPL or as a managed cloud.
  • Amazon Nova Act is AWS's service for fleets of UI-automation agents, priced per agent hour.

Choose a library when the task repeats, runs unattended and must be logged and tested. For scraping in particular, see AI agents for web scraping.

2. Agents that work in your own browser

These run inside the browser you already use, signed in to your accounts, and take over a tab when you ask.

Agent Made by Open source Entry price
Claude in Chrome Anthropic No $20/mo
Gemini in Chrome (auto browse) Google No Free + $4.99/mo
Microsoft Copilot (Edge Copilot Mode / Actions) Microsoft No Free + $9.99/mo
Nanobrowser Nanobrowser team Yes Free

Claude in Chrome and Google's Gemini in Chrome come with their makers' paid plans; Nanobrowser is an open-source extension that uses your own model keys. They suit one-off personal tasks: filling a long form, collecting information from several sites, booking something.

3. AI browsers

A whole browser built around an assistant that can read across tabs and act for you.

Agent Made by Open source Entry price
Perplexity Comet Perplexity AI No Free
Opera Neon Opera (Opera Norway AS) No Free + $19.90/mo
Dia The Browser Company of New York (Atlassian) No Free + $20/mo
Fellou Fellou No Free + $19/mo
ChatGPT Atlas OpenAI No Free

They are the easiest to start with and the hardest to automate reliably. Treat them as a better everyday browser with an agent attached, not as an automation platform.

Safety: what to check before letting an agent browse for you

Browser agents read untrusted content. A web page, an email or a review can contain hidden text written to instruct the agent ("prompt injection"), and an agent signed in to your accounts can do real damage if it follows it.

  • Use a separate browser profile with only the accounts the task needs.
  • Keep confirmation on for purchases, sending messages and anything irreversible.
  • Prefer agents that show each step and let you take over.
  • For automation at work, run agents in isolated cloud browsers rather than on an employee's logged-in browser.

Usage for libraries comes from package downloads; for browsers and extensions, from installs and web attention. More in the browser agents category.
