AionUi changelog: what's new each month

Every stable AionUi release summarised by month: the highlights, new features, improvements, fixes and anything you need to act on. 6 months covered; the current month updates daily.

September 2026

2 releases: 2.2.1 → 2.2.2

September brought improvements to notifications and conversation management, making it easier to track agent progress across multiple conversations. The sidebar and desktop alerts now distinguish between active work and waiting states, while session handling became more reliable.

Action needed
  • Skills are now delivered through an AionUi-owned view instead of being placed in the workspace directory — skill storage and loading have changed.

Highlights

  • Turn-completed notifications now show the conversation name so you can identify which one finished at a glance.
  • When an agent pauses waiting for you, a distinct attention icon appears in the sidebar and a desktop notification fires if the window is unfocused.
  • WebUI sessions now refresh silently on authentication expiry instead of interrupting you to sign in again.
  • Files and Changes panel now has a unified Refresh button that does the right thing for each tab, plus a one-click Collapse All for the file tree.
  • Agents can now start new conversations programmatically, enabling cross-conversation messaging workflows.

New

  • Desktop notifications for waiting states when the window is unfocused, naming the conversation when known.
  • Collapse All action for the Files tab to collapse the entire file tree in one click.
  • Agent-driven conversation creation allowing agents to start new conversations programmatically.
  • Session-message skill routing for @@ mentions with fallback to session capability blocks.

Improved

  • Repository discovery now recognizes linked git worktrees in multi-worktree projects.
  • Sidebar shows a distinct attention icon instead of generic generating status when conversation is waiting on you.
  • @@ mentions in conversations are now routed more smoothly through session-message skill.
  • Git worktrees created inside an already-open project now appear on the Changes tab after a single refresh.
  • Refresh button tracks real in-flight state and ignores repeated clicks until refresh completes.
  • Toolbar regrouped to match VS Code layout with project actions first and view actions at far right.
  • Auth uses dual-token refresh with singleflight for more reliable session renewal.
  • Tooltips on the right-docked panel improved for better usability.

Fixed

  • Waiting conversations no longer go unnoticed when the window is unfocused.

August 2026

14 releases: 2.1.46 → 2.1.61

August brought major new capabilities to AionUi, including native browser integration, audio attachments, multi-channel chat support via Slack and Discord, and substantial improvements to conversation management and localization. The month focused on making agents more capable while fixing critical issues that had rendered some features unusable.

Highlights

  • Agents can now drive a built-in browser, navigate pages, and maintain session state across turns through a new MCP server.
  • Audio files and images now attach as native content to capable agents instead of just file paths.
  • Slack and Discord are now fully integrated channels where authorized team members can chat with agents directly.
  • Conversations can be forked at any message to explore alternate paths without disturbing the original thread.
  • You can type and send messages while an agent is still responding, with delivery status shown inline.

New

  • Google's Antigravity (agy CLI) is now a fully supported built-in agent with working chat surface.
  • Audio attachments (mp3, wav, m4a, ogg, flac) via upload or paste.
  • Structured question cards with single-select, multi-select, and free-text "Other" options.
  • Conversation forking from any earlier message, with per-agent capability limits reflected in the UI.
  • Source Control changes panel showing modified/added/deleted files with inline staging and unstaging.
  • Drag-and-drop file and folder moving within the project tree.
  • Mermaid and WaveDrom diagram rendering with zoom, pan, and download in the preview panel.
  • Persian (fa-IR) full right-to-left layout support and locale-aware number, date, and time formatting.

Improved

  • Backend startup timeouts no longer falsely report broken installations.
  • File-watch quota exhaustion on ARM Linux degrades gracefully instead of failing.
  • Install-integrity issues that self-heal no longer trigger warnings.
  • Manual update checks work when GitHub API is unreachable by using CDN manifest as authoritative.
  • Opening files from Explorer now restores multi-tab behavior in the preview panel.
  • Message anchor rail with tick marks and hover previews for long conversations.
  • Browser tool calls now return properly instead of hanging for 25–30 seconds.
  • Team mailbox and task board are now visible in a read-only board view that updates in real time.

Fixed

  • Browser failed to start on Windows; now works correctly.
  • Antigravity team members created through team-creation flow no longer fail every turn.
  • Desktop notifications now deliver correctly on Windows.
  • Switching conversations no longer leaves previous project's file tree painted or wipes saved folder-expand state.
  • Image-generation tool now confines file paths to workspace instead of allowing reads/writes outside it.
  • Packaged desktop builds, WebUI toggle, and web build experienced full white screen due to vendor-chunk split; now fixed.

July 2026

18 releases: 2.1.27 → 2.1.45

July brought major usability improvements across scheduling, team collaboration, and file management, plus expanded language support and a visual scheduler builder. The month also introduced project-level file exploration and refined the UI for faster workflows.

Highlights

  • Visual cron scheduler builder replaces syntax entry with interval, daily, weekly, and monthly rules and live preview.
  • Project-level Explorer replaces per-conversation file trees, with project-wide filename search and @-mention integration in chat.
  • Assistants moved to top-level sidebar with new detail pages, visibility toggles, and batch management.
  • Expanded language support: Spanish, Persian, and French translations added with automatic detection.
  • Team improvements: manual member addition, lazy-warmup for dormant teammates, per-member retry on failure, and clearer permission panels.

New

  • Visual cron scheduler with interval, daily, weekly, and monthly builder rules and live preview.
  • Project-level Explorer with persistent filename search and @-mention results in chat input.
  • Context usage indicator showing percentage and token count of agent's context window.
  • Skill detail pages with file tree, content viewer, and assistant attachment/detachment.
  • System notifications when agents finish turns while app window is unfocused.
  • Common keyboard shortcuts: Cmd/Ctrl+B for sidebar, Cmd/Ctrl+L for workspace panel, Ctrl+Tab to cycle conversations, Cmd/Ctrl+T for new chat.
  • Tray icon toggle for main window (left-click show/hide, right-click context menu).
  • Spanish, Persian, and French language translations with automatic detection.

Improved

  • Scheduled tasks with queue-protection toggle to prevent runs from stacking when previous run is still active.
  • Skills now appear in slash (/) command menu alongside the plus (+) menu for faster access.
  • Model selector dropdown reorganized with top-level Model and Reasoning rows that expand on demand.
  • Assistants can set default thought level (auto or fixed) in editor; selectable from home-page model selector.
  • Team lazy-warmup: only leader warms up on entry; teammates stay dormant with outlined badge and wake on demand.
  • Permission panels simplified: one-click allow-once/reject/modify options without confirmation step; permanent options still require confirmation.
  • Workspace file tree and preview panel now persist across conversation and agent tab switches within same project.
  • Claude runs plaintext thinking; blank thought cards no longer appear.

Fixed

  • 409 conflict errors when sending queued messages resolved; draft box no longer races with backend turn completion.
  • OpenAI API key configuration ignored due to case mismatch (apiKey vs apikey).
  • Windows titlebar minimize/maximize/close buttons unresponsive (v2.1.36 regression).
  • Team session deadlock where idle cleanup would silently swallow next message into draft box.
  • Messages truncated when text mentioned internal file-attachment marker; attachment parsing now only applies to actual blocks.
  • Codex Windows binaries shipped with outdated verification layout causing post-install verification failure.

June 2026

18 releases: 2.1.9 → 2.1.26

June brought major workflow improvements to AionUi, including instant conversation loading, a conversational Butler assistant for configuration and diagnosis, and native Markdown rendering. The month also saw substantial refinements to theme handling, speech-to-text, team collaboration, and runtime management.

Highlights

  • Conversations now load instantly by showing recent messages first, then fetching older history on demand instead of hanging on long chats.
  • The Butler—a built-in AI assistant—can now configure assistants, skills, MCP servers, manage remote access, and diagnose problems through natural conversation.
  • Markdown files from your workspace now render with native syntax highlighting, mermaid diagrams, and KaTeX math support via Streamdown.
  • Speech-to-Text now transcribes live as you talk with real-time partial text in the input box, and microphone access works on macOS under hardened runtime.
  • Managed Node and ACP runtimes now ship inside the app package, eliminating separate downloads and ready-to-run on first launch.

New

  • Butler AI assistant that configures assistants, skills, MCP servers, LLM providers, app settings, diagnoses connection and runtime issues, and sets up remote public access via Cloudflare tunnel.
  • Live speech transcription with streaming support, showing partial and final text in real time during recording.
  • Native Streamdown markdown rendering with Shiki syntax highlighting, mermaid diagrams, and KaTeX math in workspace previews.
  • Assistant test connection feature in settings to check agent availability without creating a conversation.
  • Browser notifications for permission requests and turn completion when the WebUI tab is in the background.
  • Follow System theme mode option alongside Light, Dark, and 8 decorative presets in one unified Theme gallery.
  • Skills Hub can now import from folders, parent folders, SKILL.md files, or zip archives with import summary.
  • Three independent text size controls for chat, Markdown, and code that apply live and persist across restarts.

Improved

  • Skills Hub import now shows names and count of what was added instead of generic success.
  • Models stay in sync after conversation recovery; chat header and send box show the same model with no stale handshake models restored.
  • Follow-up messages while streaming now show clear "wait for current response" guidance instead of generic "Request failed" card.
  • Workspace path validation now reflects real availability; paths with surrounding whitespace are no longer wrongly rejected.
  • MCP server failures now show runtime-specific hints tailored to Bun, uv, Python, or Deno instead of generic launcher message.
  • ACP model and mode selectors now follow the runtime's confirmed response so UI stays aligned with what the backend actually applied.
  • Stop controls are now slot-scoped in team chats; pausing one teammate no longer cancels the whole team and each pane's send box gates independently.
  • Markdown/HTML preview defaults to 100% zoom matching Cmd/Ctrl+0 reset for consistency.

Fixed

  • Microphone on macOS now works under hardened runtime; previously Speech-to-Text silently recorded nothing and app never appeared in Privacy & Security.
  • Blank PDF previews on Windows—PDFs from workspace file tree now render inline instead of showing empty panel.
  • Custom OpenAI-compatible STT endpoints that can't stream no longer return "No speech detected"; recording now keeps going and falls back correctly.
  • Regression where markdown source view lost color highlighting and appeared nearly monochrome.
  • WebUI Office (PPT/Word/Excel) previews that returned 404—every Office preview in browser mode was broken before this fix.
  • Crash in Tools settings when MCP connection tests or image-generation toggles finished after navigating away from the tab.

May 2026

10 releases: 1.9.24 → 2.1.8

May brought a major architectural shift: AionUi separated its backend into an independent Rust-based service (AionCore) that runs on desktop, web, and server deployments. The month also included refreshed Office skills, mobile UI refinements, and numerous stability improvements.

  • Local WebUI now opens automatically in browser on startup.
  • Image generation model dropdown restricted to known-working models with provider tooltips.
  • Provider health checks now work through Aion CLI without requiring Gemini CLI on PATH.

Improved

  • Release downloads route through faster mirror with GitHub fallback.
  • Desktop conversation header redesigned: model selector moved right, agent logo beside title, team chats show People icon.
  • Mobile messages more compact with tighter bubbles (14px) and shorter sendbox.
  • Tool output lazy-loaded on demand instead of fetching full content upfront, speeding up conversations with long histories.
  • Model selection now persists when leaving and returning to a conversation.
  • Theme, language, and window bounds now persist correctly on restart.
  • Backend startup failures show clear recovery screens with diagnostic reports instead of silent failures.
  • Error messages now survive navigation and reload with structured UI on live streaming responses.

Fixed

  • Pasting images or dragging files no longer exits "Work in project" mode.
  • Bottom 8px of Base URL input in custom platform modal now accepts clicks.
  • English text rendering no longer appears thin and hard to read on systems with Inter font installed.
  • Deleted providers and assistants no longer resurrect on next launch.
  • Packaged builds no longer crash from EPIPE errors when console output is piped to closed streams.

April 2026

10 releases: 1.9.13 → 1.9.23

April brought major improvements to Team mode collaboration, with better file handling, agent detection, and reliability across platforms. The month also focused on fixing edge cases in agent lifecycle management and workspace handling.

  • Fixed critical issues where Team Leaders were auto-removed on crash and workspaces were overwritten when converting solo chats to team mode.
  • Improved agent detection and reliability on Windows, including support for Node.js below v20 and better handling of permission mode changes.
  • Replaced the unreliable idle fallback with a proper process-exit handler and heartbeat protocol, eliminating false finish events during long tool executions.

New

  • Team Leader can now describe and recommend preset assistants to teammates using a new teamdescribeassistant tool.
  • Per-agent confirmation with sidebar badge and wiggle animation shows which teammate is awaiting your approval.
  • Manual close button for individual team members lets you dismiss a teammate mid-session without ending the whole team.
  • Team and cron channels can now be drag-sorted in the sidebar with order persisted between sessions.
  • Full Russian (ru-RU) localization added across desktop, mobile, assistant resources, and documentation.
  • Direct feedback submission with automatic log collection and Sentry reporting for faster diagnostics.
  • Onboarding empty state added when Gemini CLI is used as Team Leader, replacing blank first views.
  • Process-exit handler and ping/pong heartbeat protocol for more reliable agent communication.

Improved

  • Reduced aggressive Team recommendations; solo mode is now the default with Team appearing only on explicit request or for large tasks.
  • Improved teammate creation flow with the Leader proposing a lineup with responsibilities and recommended agent types first.
  • Workspace path now synced across all team members when a team session starts, eliminating file-not-found errors.
  • Team-capable agents resolved from ACP initialize capabilities instead of static whitelist, improving backend compatibility.
  • Model selector no longer shows non-cc-switch source labels, reducing confusion when switching providers.
  • Team wake prompts now use push-messages-only model, reducing token overhead during coordination.
  • Fixed selection clarity and dark-theme contrast in Team creation modal and across dialogs and forms.
  • Aionrs now matches ACP and Gemini manager pipeline more closely with improved cron feedback loops and message handling.

Fixed

  • Repaired legacy Team sessions whose stored member list was lost, allowing affected historical Team chats to open normally.
  • Fixed queued messages rolling back after teammate acceptance; outgoing sends are no longer silently dropped.
  • Fixed Team Leader being auto-removed when it crashes; Leader now recovers in place instead of being dropped.
  • Fixed workspace being overwritten when solo chat is converted to team session, preserving original working directory.
  • Prevented silent crashes on Linux where codex-acp would exit without triggering crash signals.
  • Fixed Windows agent detection timing out and Codex failing to start due to Windows Defender locking bun cache files.
