AI Memory changelog: what's new each month
Every stable AI Memory release summarised by month: the highlights, new features, improvements, fixes and anything you need to act on. 2 months covered; the current month updates daily.
September 2026
6 releases: 2.0.0 → 2.1.1
September brought AI Memory 2.0, a major release centred on local embeddings and an open knowledge format that works offline and across tools. The month focused on reliability, performance, and usability refinements across multiple point releases.
- OpenCode Go requests must now include x-opencode-session and User-Agent headers (enforcement began 2026-09-06).
- Typed relations now use fixed-shape object structure instead of open map for OpenAI-family compatibility.
Highlights
- Local embeddings now run in-process by default with no API key or external server required.
- All pages conform to Open Knowledge Format v0.2, enabling portable export and import across systems.
- Time-travel queries let you ask what was known about a topic at any past point.
- Typed relation edges (causes, fixes, contradicts) surface contradictions without LLM cost.
- Web UI reorganised to prioritise knowledge over system machinery, with a cleaner homepage.
New
- Cross-session experience pass reviews recent trajectories side by side for knowledge visible only across sessions.
- Retrieval benchmark harness (ai-memory-eval) runs LongMemEval-S against a real server end to end.
- Offline durability for TypeScript integrations: OpenCode, OMP, Pi, and OpenClaw now spool and retry failed deliveries.
- Entity retrieval index populated from tags and startup backfill.
- Podman support in the ai-memory wrapper without requiring Docker.
Improved
- Lint reporting consolidated to one report per project instead of daily dated pages.
- Natural-language search no longer crashes or returns stopword-only matches.
- Status command now reports embedding coverage, wiki format, typed edges, and write-queue backpressure.
- Watcher no longer spams on orphan project directories.
- Briefing maxchars now bounds the entire brief instead of just bodies.
- Wiki commits no longer re-hash the entire tree on each update.
- Generated TypeScript integrations authenticate correctly under --apply.
- Startup avoids re-archiving the whole data directory on each serve.
Fixed
- Windows OKF migration no longer aborts on the .serve.lock file held by the same server.
- libgit2 crash-loop from invalid object specified class=Tree during migration.
- OpenCode Go requests now send required x-opencode-session and User-Agent headers.
- ZCode config rejection now reports offending keys instead of silently failing.
- Empty page titles with blank frontmatter no longer trip duplicate-title lint.
- Local embeddings model download can no longer hang startup forever.
August 2026
