LightningMaps.org

A real-time map of lightning strikes located by a volunteer network of home-built radio receivers run by the Blitzortung.org community.

Strikes pop up on the map within seconds, and you can watch thunderstorms cross a country, all detected by hobbyists' antennas.

For your agent

No official API. An agent should not scrape the site: use it by hand.

  • There is no public API; raw data goes only to people who run a receiving station. Do not iframe or scrape the live map; static CC BY-SA images may be reused with credit.
  • Credit: 'LightningMaps.org CC BY-SA 4.0 / Lightning data by Blitzortung.org and contributors'.
  • Do not embed the real-time maps in iframes and do not use the data for storm warning systems.
  • Raw data only for project participants; apps using it must be free, non-commercial and use their own server.

Paste into your agent: Read https://agentgid.com/resources/lightningmaps-blitzortung/agent.md before using LightningMaps.org.

What you can build

  • A blog post or teaching page that reuses CC BY-SA lightning map images with the proper credit line.
  • For station operators: a non-commercial, freely accessible local storm-activity page fed from your own participant data access, served from a separate server.
