  • Unsent prompts are now preserved when switching between sessions.
  • MCP servers on Windows now load correctly with npx and uvx launchers.
  • Models that require specific reasoning levels are now handled properly.

New

  • Slash command /compact to summarize conversations and free up context.
  • Connectors tab shows brand logos and indicates how many tools each connector adds to sessions.
  • Browse section in Connectors tab lists the full catalog in a two-column searchable view.
  • Suggested section offers ready-made connector combinations.
  • One-time What's new dialog for existing users introducing Connectors feature.
  • Agent teams data compacts automatically on first open.
  • apiKeyOptional provider fact for optional authentication on certain providers.
  • Opt-in Langfuse tracing for BYOK providers with operator tags and metadata support.

Improved

  • Marketplace rows now show item type to distinguish between items with the same name.
  • Category filters consolidated into a single dropdown in Marketplace.
  • Sessions started in the app are highlighted in sidebar while open.
  • Sessions no longer marked unread by their own messages.
  • Model catalog refreshed with new defaults for DigitalOcean, GMI Cloud, NanoGPT, Nvidia, and Ofox.
  • Stdio MCP servers get 10-second initialization budget instead of 3 seconds.
  • Reasoning level for Cline and OpenAI-compatible adapters snaps to model's advertised effort levels.
  • Cloud sessions now use the same model picker as Cline on the web.

Fixed

  • Custom Anthropic endpoints like Azure AI Foundry no longer fail with 400 errors.
  • Responses ending without recognized finish reasons are retried instead of treated as complete.
  • OpenAI-compatible providers no longer show deprecation warning on every response chunk.
  • cline config --json now prints JSON output instead of opening interactive view.
  • Portable reasoning levels for Kimi K3 and similar models now use supported levels.
  • Connectors unavailability now shows sign-in card or rollout notice explaining why.

September 2026

39 releases: 0.0.82 → 0.0.40

September brought major updates across Cline's platforms, including a new Linux app, SSH remote support, and improved reliability for long sessions and API errors. The month focused on stability, concurrent operations, and expanding platform coverage.

Highlights

  • Cline Desktop now runs on Linux with native .deb and .rpm packages for x64 and ARM64 architectures.
  • Work remotely over SSH with the app staying local; add and test hosts in Settings and pick from the environment selector.
  • Sub-agents spawned in the same step now run concurrently instead of sequentially, speeding up delegated work.
  • Model turns that fail mid-stream with transient errors are now retried up to three times with backoff instead of failing immediately.
  • Sessions can now start in their own git worktree, and long sessions compact automatically when they need to.

New

  • Agent Plugins managed through the Hub: packages under ~/.agents/plugins/ are discovered and their skills exposed as plugin-name:skill-name.
  • Import conversation history from Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode with automatic summarization on resume.
  • Composer shows the current branch's GitHub pull request status including merge state, changed lines, and CI checks.
  • Plugin slash commands now work in the desktop app, running handlers and starting new tasks from results.
  • Voice input works on macOS and streams live with provider-backed transcription (OpenAI, Vercel AI Gateway, ElevenLabs).
  • Settings now has Diagnostics (export logs and session manifests) and About (version info and recent release notes) pages.
  • Oversized MCP and Composio tool results can now be read in full through a pageable preview.
  • Custom providers from providers.json/models.json now run on the agent path, not just appear in pickers.

Improved

  • Model output allowances now scale with the model's advertised limit, instead of a flat 32,000 tokens.
  • Context compaction triggers on provider-reported input-token counts instead of character estimates, working better with dense content.
  • Streaming output no longer throttled by hook forwarding; tokens flow faster to clients.
  • Command output from background processes now streams into the command row while running instead of appearing only on completion.
  • Feature-flag polls for the same account now share one in-flight request instead of duplicating traffic.
  • Run-start hooks can now inject context through a new appendContext channel while keeping stop/reason assignable.
  • Checkpoints no longer re-hash unchanged untracked files on every turn, eliminating delays in multi-GB workspaces.
  • Terminal commands that succeed without printing anything are now reported as empty output instead of treated as shell failures.

Fixed

  • Tool calling no longer silently disabled for gateway models whose catalog entries declare no capabilities.
  • Empty capability lists no longer strip image input from file reads.
  • Langfuse tracing now works in minified release builds by detecting the OpenTelemetry provider correctly.
  • Restored checkpoints no longer silently knock off commits made after the checkpoint was taken.
  • Remote MCP servers with connection budget now fail fast (10s) instead of stalling session startup for the full 60s timeout.
  • Hub daemon no longer leaks processes when one MCP server blocks the rest from shutting down.

August 2026

27 releases: 3.0.55 → 0.0.21

August brought major stability improvements to session handling and hub management, along with a significant rebrand from Cline Code to Cline and a major redesign of the interface and settings pages.

Highlights

  • The product was renamed from Cline Code to Cline with refreshed branding and icons.
  • Sessions now survive hub restarts and upgrades through durable event logging and client replay.
  • The interface was substantially redesigned with a new Customize hub, reorganized sidebar with project grouping, and dedicated Marketplace page.
  • Added voice input, native macOS notifications, image generation, web search, and command streaming into transcripts.
  • Fixed critical bugs causing hub instances to shut each other down and sessions to disconnect abnormally.

New

  • Voice input: dictate into the composer and have speech transcribed using your configured provider and model.
  • Native macOS notifications when tasks finish or need user input, configurable in Settings.
  • Image generation: models that support it can now produce images during tasks, rendered inline in transcripts.
  • Web search during tasks for models with built-in search capability, toggled in Feature Settings.
  • Agent-managed durable todos and one-time or recurring scheduled tasks scoped to workspaces.
  • Cline Desktop for Windows with auto-updating, background installation, and code-signed installer.
  • Marketplace two-pane explorer with browsable list, category filters, and full metadata display.
  • Server-side feature flags that refresh when account changes.

Improved

  • Streaming assistant markdown no longer flashes back to raw text during rendering.
  • Commands now stream output into transcripts as they run with preserved terminal colors instead of appearing all at once.
  • Finished agent runs collapse into a single expandable summary instead of burying the final answer.
  • Redesigned question cards with explicit option selection, button submission, and arrow-key navigation.
  • Session rows show trash buttons on hover for quick deletion with confirmation.
  • Model selector now leads with Recommended and Free tiers with descriptions instead of raw alphabetized list.
  • Skill slash commands load through the skills tool instead of being pasted into messages.
  • Hub now refuses new mutating work while draining to prepare for upgrades without losing work.

Fixed

  • Two Cline installations on different builds no longer shut each other's Hub daemon down in a loop, killing live sessions.
  • Custom OpenAI-Compatible models with inferred capability lists had tool calling silently disabled.
  • Background hub process ballooning in memory during long sessions by broadcasting full transcript with every update.
  • PostToolUse hooks running fire-and-forget with their output and cancel controls discarded.
  • Codebase search tool crashing on files containing a single enormous line.
  • Provider-executed tool activity being dropped entirely from runtime events and transcript.
